We are looking for NMC-registered nurses to join Great Ormond Street Hospital to work in their well-established team within the Heart and Lung Directorate.
This is an exciting time at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Cardiac Nursing. We are expanding our service and need your help. Cardiac services are embarking on a programme of change in order to meet the challenges of providing a world leading cardiac programme.
We are expanding the service to open a focused High dependency Unit. This will help children needing cardiac surgery to be nursed in the right place at the right time allowing for timely discharges. You can help be part of this change.
Bear and Alligator ward are two areas consisting of 28 beds combined (inclusive of 8 HDU beds) that specialise in Cardiothoracic patients involving the heart, lungs and tracheal. Great Ormond Street Hospital is the UK centre for Paediatric Pulmonary Hypertension, providing specialist care for patients up to 18 years old. The typical cases that present on the ward are those patients who require CPAP, optiflow, chest drains, inotropes, TPN, blood transfusions, VAD's and pacemakers. We also manage patients pre and post heart/lung transplant.
As a band 6 excellent communication skills are required in order to manage either ward as the nurse in charge. You will liaise with the full MDT - CICU, medics, surgeons, physios, dieticians etc to ensure smooth patient journey. This will be with the support of both our clinical and office based ward managers, education team and family liaison nurse.
Alligator ward is a cardiac ward which focuses on Level 1 patients ensuring timely discharges and parental teaching.
Cardiac at GOSH is a fast-paced environment which requires you to be flexible and adaptable to different situations
Once you're here, you'll be given a preceptor or mentor based on your background and receive ongoing assistance from our own ward-based education team. Where necessary, these employees will assist you as you develop your skills and confidence.
The opportunity to rotate across all areas and specialities within Heart and Lung are available after a period of consolidation.
