The fellowship posts will commence in August 2026 for 12 months full time. There is 1 fellowship post, which will be a combined paediatric and adult spinal fellowship 6 months at Alder Hey and 6 months at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic hospital, Oswestry. Clinical fellows must have completed orthopaedic or neurosurgical residency. The successful applicant would be expected to provide cover at a senior trainee level. The fellow is allocated a specific job plan which combines both outpatient and theatre activity.
Experience is likely to involve a wide variety of complex spinal reconstruction. In the paediatric sector all aspects of thoracic, lumbar and lumbosacral spinal deformity is covered.
Research time is provided within the week and the successful candidate would be expected to produce work for presentation and publication during the tenure.

The trainee will attend spinal outpatient clinics and neuromuscular combined spinal clinics.
The trainee will lead the daily spinal ward round and coordinate aftercare of spinal patients, delegating appropriately.
The trainee will, under supervision, operate upon the various conditions listed above and once satisfactorily trained independently too. He or she will also carry out, under supervision as necessary, investigative procedures of these conditions. The trainee will be involved in theatre work for a minimum of two whole days per week. He / she will be encouraged to attend other theatre sessions to maximise the surgical exposure and experience.

The post encompasses all aspects of spinal surgery with a focus on all types of spinal deformity. The paediatric spinal department has strong links with the Cerebral palsy service and the neuromuscular department.
