Job overview

We are seeking a motivated and organised individual to join our Ultrasound service at Russells Hall Hospital as a Band 3 Ultrasound Coordinator. This pivotal role involves overseeing the day-to-day running of the acute site ultrasound service, coordinating staff schedules, providing cover for short-term absences, and ensuring continuous service delivery.

You will manage the ward room for patients, maintain real-time updates, refill cancellations, and maximise utilisation to reduce wasted capacity. Accurate inpatient vetting lists will be maintained to ensure patients are correctly prepared and urgent or cancer pathway cases prioritised. You will act as the main point of contact for wards and support efficient patient flow throughout the department.

The role includes mentoring and guiding staff, facilitating training, and overseeing mandatory training compliance to sustain a skilled and motivated workforce. The ideal candidate will have excellent organisational and communication skills, a strong customer service background, and the ability to work under pressure. Confidence with IT systems, managing multiple priorities, and using initiative is essential.

This rotational, long-day role requires flexibility to meet operational demands. Joining our team means contributing to patient safety, high-quality care, and ongoing service improvement while making a tangible impact on diagnostic pathways.

Main duties of the job

This is a key operational role within the acute ultrasound service, providing essential support to clinical staff and ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care. The role involves improving workflow, collaborating with sonographers, radiographers, and administrative staff, maintaining a safe and organised environment, and monitoring service performance to support planning and audits.
