An exciting opportunity has arisen at Wye Valley NHS Trust for a Band 7 pharmacist to develop within a specialist clinical area, delivering high‑quality clinical pharmacy services on a speciality ward and working closely with the multidisciplinary team to provide medicines optimisation. The post offers a structured progression to a Band 8a Specialist Pharmacist role, supported by completion of the Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy Practice and attainment of agreed clinical competencies, enabling the provision of specialist pharmaceutical expertise across designated service areas.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:

  • Lead and support the pharmacy Service provided to the Surgical Specialties & Critical Care directorates.
  • Work closely with the consultant workforce, the lead and specialist nurses, and other staff members associated with the pharmacy service to the Surgical Specialties & Critical Care directorates.
  • Be responsible for coordinating pharmacy clinical services to the Directorate, oversee and investigate medicines related safety incidents in the Directorate, monitor financial and clinical governance in the Directorate.
  • Lead on evidence-based prescribing advice to ensure effective, appropriate, sustainable, cost-effective and safe use of medicines and promote patient-centred care for all patients.
  • To lead on guidelines for the prescribing, administration and storage of surgical related medicines to facilitate good practice within the Surgical Specialties & Critical Care directorates, within the Acute Trust and across the primary and secondary care interface.
  • To provide training and education to all levels of Healthcare professionals in acute and primary care whilst linking into national networks to learn about developments to share across the network.
  • To support 7-day clinical services to the Trust on a rotational weekend, public holiday and On Call (EDC) rota basis.
