Senior Pharmacist (Primary Care) - Prescribing Support Team

The role:

The Pharmacy and Prescribing Support Unit has its organisational base in Corporate Services and provides services to the entire NHS GG&C system, including Acute Division, Health and Social Care Partnerships, Mental Health Partnership, Prisons, Police Custody Suites and the NHS Board.

This exciting role will involve working with GPs and the primary care multidisciplinary teams to improve medicines management and deliver excellent patient care.

This role will involve the delivery of the pharmacotherapy service as part of the GP contract and will provide an important function in supporting patients with their medicines.

This patient-facing role will involve taking on a prescribing role and developing your own clinical caseload in line with the Achieving Excellence strategy objectives.

All roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

• This is a permanent post working 28.8 hours per week
• These hours will be worked Monday-Friday
• You will be based at Rowan Park Business Centre
• Please note that salary will be pro rata for part-time hours.

Key responsibilities:

Your role will be to work as a member of the NHS GGC primary care pharmacy team.

The objectives of the team are to improve the quality and cost effectiveness of prescribing and medicines use for patients across NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

You will work closely with GPs, other practice staff, community pharmacists, care home staff, members of the primary healthcare team and central team colleagues in supporting the development and application of high quality, safe, cost effective, rational and evidence based prescribing in the Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP).

You will work within GP practices, care homes and other healthcare settings to provide individualised clinical care to patients, through clinics, to improve the safety and effectiveness of their medicines, prescribing where appropriate.

You should have a sound clinical knowledge, good IT skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to work autonomously as well as part of a team. You will work on joint projects/initiatives within the HSCP as required and promote awareness of prescribing management issues

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

• You must be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council and be able to demonstrate a commitment to Continuing Professional Development.
• You must have significant post-registration experience.
• You will be required to travel between GP practices and care homes to carry out the duties of this post.
• Experience of directly working with primary care teams and knowledge of GP systems would be advantageous.
• Master's Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent
• Registrant with the General Pharmaceutical Council, Independent prescriber or working towards Demonstrable post-registration experience
