An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Physiotherapist to join our Paediatric Therapy Team at Ormskirk District General Hospital .

You will have the opportunity to work within the Children’s Ward and the Paediatric Emergency Department whilst gaining valuable experience of working within the Neo-Natal unit, Maternity, Cystic Fibrosis and MSK clinics. In addition, the post holder will develop their competence in the assessment and management of specific respiratory conditions in children within these areas.

The successful post holder will receive support and development opportunities from the Clinical Specialist Paediatric Physiotherapist and in addition, will have exciting and unique learning prospects of working alongside the MDT within this specialised area.  We are extremely keen to promote continuing professional development, and regularly complete supervision and peer training / review sessions.

Once established in post, the candidate will have delegated responsibility and will deputise for the Team Lead in their absence.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a person who is enthusiastic and motivated with an emphasis in clinical, communication, organisational and time management skills, who will support the driving force to change and innovate service development within our Therapy service.

The Physiotherapist will be a key role across a seven-day service, supporting the junior and student workforce and will have opportunities to work with in-patients, community outreach and outpatients across both sites.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone to join our team, to gain further experience of working within the speciality of Paediatric Physiotherapy. Previous knowledge and experience is essential, however additional training, development and support will be offered.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To be professional and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your own work including the management of patients/clients in your care.
  • To ensure a high standard of clinical care for the patients/clients under your care, and support more junior staff to do likewise.
  • To undertake a comprehensive assessment of patients/clients including those with diverse or complex presentations/multi pathologies; use specialist clinical reasoning skills and appropriate assessment techniques to provide an accurate diagnosis of their condition
  • Formulate and deliver an individual treatment programme using assessment, reasoning skills and treatment skills based on a sound knowledge of evidence based practice and treatment options. Formulate an initial diagnosis and prognoses in order to recommend best course of intervention and develop comprehensive discharge plans
  • To take delegated responsibility from the Band 7 clinician for managing patients/clients with particular conditions and be responsible for providing specialist assessment and treatment plans for patients with these conditions.
  • Evaluate patient progress, reassess and alter treatment programmes as required
  • To have the ability to undertake self-directed/lone working in a variety of locations
