A new opportunity has arisen for a Senior Occupational Therapist to join the Older Adult Mental Health Service within Caerphilly borough. The post holder will be ward based and have a passionate approach to dementia care along with a specialist interest to developing and promoting this role within the service. The primary role for this post will be the ward, but some opportunity to carry out community work may be available depending upon the needs of the service.
This role is essential in supporting person centred care and leading effective occupational therapy assessment, intervention and evaluation within the inpatient setting. Supporting timely and least restrictive discharge planning by working as part of the multi-disciplinary team is integral to this role. The post holder will be supported by the professional lead occupational therapist within the borough both in a clinical and managerial capacity. They will also be part of a supportive occupational therapy team within Caerphilly.
The post holder will be part of a forward thinking and dynamic occupational therapy service in within ABUHB which staff well being and clinical supervision are prioritised along with continuing professional development and service development. The occupational therapy service within the Mental Health & Learning Disabilities division has embedded the Model of Human Occupation into practice, enabling staff to access and use specialist assessments.
Lead on the identifying of occupational therapy needs for service users on the ward through specialist assessments, goal planning and interventions and evaluate the effectiveness and impact on occupational therapy by use of outcome measures.
Communicate and work collaboratively with all MDT members, establishing excellent working relationships, using professional autonomy and professional confidence to promote and develop the inpatient occupational therapy service.
Support timely, safe, but least restrictive and person centred discharge planning as part of working with the MDT, the person and families/carers.
Supervise and support two Band 3 occupational therapy support workers on the ward by planning and delegating tasks to support occupational therapy interventions.
Work with the wider older adult mental health occupational therapy service by contributing to service development and to identify training needs to support this role.
