The Acute Medicine Therapy Team at Queens Hospital are recruiting into Band 6 Occupational Therapy posts.

The post holder will be joining an established, vibrant and friendly team of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and assistant staff who share an office base and work closely together to provide a consistent and responsive Therapy service to all the Acute Medicine wards.

Prior experience as a senior OT is not essential if you have gained relevant skills & experience as a Band 5 and have a passion for Acute Medicine

The rotation consists of yearly rotations into Acute Medicine including the Discharge Assessment Unit, Frailty / Front Door, Trauma Orthopaedics/General Surgery, Oncology and Discharge to Assess at Community Hospitals. You will enhance clinical skills & knowledge working with a variety of patients, providing advanced OT assessments and treatments and providing specialist advice and support to other professionals throughout the Trust

Main duties of the job

Excellent problem solving skills are a must, to ensure strength based, holistic and patient centred quality care.

Experience in managing complex discharges in a fast-paced acute hospital environment is essential, as is the ability to communicate effectively as part of multi-disciplinary and Therapy team.

This will involve working closely with the other senior OT’s and Physiotherapists to ensure optimum service delivery and delay avoidance.

You will have experience in working in Acute Medicine and will be expected to play an active role in the development of the service and the individuals within the service.

You will be required to carry a caseload independently and provide supervision and support to assist more junior OT staff as necessary. You must be adaptable, calm and be able to effectively delegate work to OT and assistant staff within the team to ensure priorities across the service are covered.
