Are you an experienced Occupational Therapist looking for a rewarding opportunity in forensic services?

We are recruiting for a Senior Occupational Therapist to join our multi-disciplinary team at HMP Bullingdon, a category B prison which operates as a local remand, and sentenced male establishment. The prison has an operational capacity of 1100 and takes prisoners predominantly from Oxford, Reading and Aylesbury Crown courts and the Magistrates courts in Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Berkshire.

You'll undertake the role of Care Co-ordinator for an identified number of individuals on the caseload, some of whom may be on CPA with multiple and complex needs.

You'll oversee the provision of a range of graded therapeutic interventions to support Individuals in areas of self-maintenance, productivity and leisure within the prison relating to their wellbeing and mental and physical health.  You'll also be key in evaluating our OT service within the prison and leading on specialist interventions, working with both internal and external partners including healthcare providers, social care providers and probation services.

Main duties of the job

  • Manage a varied and, at times, complex case load
  • Undertake the role of Care Co-ordinator for an identified number of individuals on the caseload, some of whom may be on CPA with multiple and complex needs
  • Provide occupational therapy that is evidence-based and follows client-centred principles. This will include assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating the outcome of interventions and documenting all stages of the process
  • Provide leadership for junior/non-registered staff as appropriate to the post, through supervision and appraisal, delegating responsibilities as appropriate
  • Participate in the planning, development and evaluation of the Occupational Therapy service within the prison, holding responsibility and taking a leading role for defined projects or specialist interventions
  • Participate effectively as a full member of the multi-disciplinary team
  • Contribute to the maintenance and development of the trust-wide Occupational Therapy service and local multi-disciplinary team.
  • Actively participate in the education of occupational therapy students
  • Pro-actively engaging in teaching/presentations of specialist skills both within the Trust and for continuing professional development events/activities
