Job overview

There is an exciting opportunity for a part-time Senior Occupational Therapist to join the Occupational Therapy Team, at the Derbyshire Children's Hospital based at the Royal Derby Hospital.

You will require experience and skills as an Occupational Therapist across a range of specialisms, covering both inpatient and outpatient services. Experience of working within a paediatric setting is not an essential criteria, however you should have a strong interest in working with children of all ages. We are looking for someone who is hardworking and enthusiastic to work within this challenging and varied area.

You will be responsible for contributing to the delivery of Occupational Therapy within the team, carrying your own caseload. You will have opportunities to develop professionally supported with regular supervision as well as  internal and external training courses.

We work closely with our physiotherapy colleagues to provide holistic care to children across a wide range of specialisms including MSK, respiratory, neurological and rheumatological.

Main duties of the job

  • To perform advanced assessment of children with diverse pathologies and complex physical and psychological condition.
  • To develop and deliver individualised treatment programmes for children.
  • To hold clinical responsibility for and manage own caseload, working without direct supervision. Supervision takes the form of regular reflective and clinical reasoning sessions.
  • To complement the skills within the Children’s Occupational Therapy Team, working to ensure that children cared for by the department experience excellent care and continuity, and that their families feel supported in their roles.
  • To delegate work to support staff.
  • To supervise, educate and assess the performance of Occupational Therapy students; this would be to a graduate level standard and involve working with universities to meet the standards required.
  • To be an integral part of the multidisciplinary team, liaising and working with staff outside and within the Trust tin the best interests of the child.
  • To liaise with other Occupational Therapy colleagues to provide a flexible service during pressure times, due to workload or staffing difficulties.
  • To participate in the training and supervision of Band 5 Occupational Therapists, Assistants and Technical Instructors.
  • To undertake routine administrative tasks as agreed with senior staff.
