Main duties of the job

As Senior Nurse Manager, you will:

  • Provide visible, compassionate and credible nursing leadership across urgent and emergency care services
  • Lead on quality, safety and experience, ensuring robust governance and learning cultures
  • Shape and support workforce models, including advanced practice, skill mix and new roles
  • Drive admission avoidance and flow improvement, aligned to system priorities
  • Support escalation, resilience and recovery planning across acute and community settings
  • Work collaboratively with medical, operational and system leaders to deliver integrated care

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Senior Nurse Manager (Urgent and Emergency Care) provides professional, clinical and operational leadership for nursing services within Urgent and Emergency Care. The post holder is accountable for nursing standards, workforce leadership, quality, safety, patient experience and service improvement across their defined area of responsibility.

This is a senior autonomous leadership role, requiring the post holder to act as a credible, visible and accessible nursing leader, capable of providing highly specialised advice, managing clinical risk, and ensuring delivery of safe, effective and high‑quality urgent and emergency care services.
