Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust provide a commissioned integrated mental health service which delivers mental health care to men in custody at HMP Forest Bank.  The team provide mental health assessment, treatment, and support to cover a wide range of mental health conditions working within the stepped care model.

We have an exciting opportunity for  a Band 6 Mental Health Nurse to join our team, on a permanent contract, in providing secondary mental health care which is delivered within the prison.  This post is part of the secondary mental health team which is comparable to a community mental health team in the community.

This is a permanent post and the applicant must have demonstrable experience working within mental health services or health and justice setting. The post holder might be asked to work within our other mental health teams if required. RMN Registration is required. Additional information:- There is also an additional Recruitment and Retain payment.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will manage individuals with secondary mental health service needs whilst they are in prison custody.  This includes assisting in the delivery and development of effective, needs based, modern mental health services within the prison.

The post holder should be expert in all areas of service delivery, ensuring effective communication is always maintained.

The post holder will be responsible and accountable for the effective management of their own caseload and be expected to effectively utilize nursing skills and resources to provide high quality service to all service users.  This role requires the post holder to contribute to maintaining the CPA process throughout the legal and custodial process.

To develop planned programmes of care to promote health gains and maximize independence in all types of clients within the prison community.

As part of case management, the post holder will demonstrate excellent multiagency working skills and practice in accordance with the professional, ethical, and legal framework for nursing.

Identify health and wellbeing needs through observation, discussion, and the use of agreed assessment methods which you are competent to use and within your own scope of practice.

Demonstrate good knowledge of the mental health act and how this relates to individuals in prison custody and throughout the criminal justice system.
