Job overview

There is a requirement for an enthusiastic person to join the Trust’s Electronics & Medical Engineering Team. The successful candidate will be involved in the maintenance, calibration and repair of a wide range of medical devices including life support equipment such as anaesthetic machines, ventilators, renal and  other highly complex specialist equipment used within a modern hospital environment. Knowledge of CCTV systems & medical equipment networking would be beneficial.

Main duties of the job

A Higher National Certificate or equivalent specialist study/experience in a medical electronic maintenance related discipline is essential, as is a current driving licence as the post-holder will be required to take part in an emergency on-call rota and may be required to carry out maintenance on other hospital sites, in patient’s homes or in the community.

The successful candidate will be required to rotate to any hospital site/location to meet the demands of the service.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • The Senior Medical Electronics Technician is responsible for the maintenance, calibration and repair of a broad spectrum of medical electronic devices, many of which are highly specialised, complex and technologically advanced, requiring an in depth knowledge of current engineering techniques.
  • Carry out planned maintenance, repair, calibration and servicing of specialist medical equipment.
  • Acceptance test new equipment.
  • Train medical and technical staff in the use of medical devices.
  • Take a lead role in major installations

Please note it is a requirement of The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust that all successful candidates who require a DBS for the post they have been offered pay for their DBS certificate. The method of payment is a salary deduction from your first month’s pay.
