Job overview

We are looking for highly motivated individuals to join our team and be a driving force in further developing our infection service. These posts would be well suited to resident doctors looking to deepen their infection and microbiology knowledge.

The Department is current undertaking an improvement project to create a cohesive infection service across all the hospitals within the Trust, in what will become one of the largest infection departments in the UK. This will incorporate colleagues in infectious diseases, sexual and reproductive health, respiratory medicine, genitourinary medicine and infection prevention.

Candidates must be eligible for their own GMC registration: an active licence, ceased license or pending application with the GMC at the point of application. Candidates who do not fit this criteria will not progress through to the shortlisting stage.

Main duties of the job

There are a wealth of advantages to joining our team, not limited to the following;

  • Extensive range of specialties with potential to develop the infection service in areas of special interest
  • Complex and varied case mix (many opportunities for publications/research and continuous professional development)
  • Large laboratory with WASP lab automation and partnered with UKHSA. Continuously looking to implement new molecular technologies
  • Implementation of new laboratory IT system (Beaker) and Electronic patient record system (HIVE) across the trust since September 2022.
  • Strong and regular communication between clinical team and laboratory
  • Great relationships with supportive AMS pharmacy team – weekly complex case MDTs and stewardship ward rounds.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To find out more about the key responsibilities and the specific skills and experience you’ll need, take a look at the Job Description & Person Specification attachments under the ‘Supporting Documents’ heading.   So that you’re even more equipped to make an informed decision to apply to us, you’ll need to take time to read the ‘Candidate Essentials Guide’ that sits with the Job Description and Person Specification.  This document provides you with details about the Trust, our benefits and outlines how ‘we care for you as you care for others’.  Most importantly, it also contains critical information you’ll need to be aware of before you submit an application form.

COVID-19 vaccination remains the best way to protect yourself, your family, your colleagues and of course patients from the virus when working in our healthcare settings. Whilst COVID-19 vaccination is not currently a condition of employment, we do encourage our staff to get vaccinated. If you are unvaccinated, there is helpful advice and information available by searching on the ‘NHS England’ website where you can also find out more about how to access the vaccination.
