This investment is focused on building a stable, future-proof workforce, reducing reliance on insourcing, and creating roles that are properly supported, well-resourced and designed for the long term.
As part of this investment, we are looking to recruit an enthusiastic doctor who will work at registrar (ST) level in the department of Gastroenterology at North Manchester General Hospital to support the Gastroenterology wards and out-patient clinical activity.

GI Medicine operates as a managed single service MSS across North Manchester General Hospital (NMGH), Manchester Royal Infirmary (MRI), Wythenshawe Hospital and Trafford General Hospital (TGH). All roles will be expected to work across sites as part of a collaborative, cross-site working ethos that promotes shared learning, consistency of care and flexibility within job planning. There will also be an expectation of some evening and weekend working on a rota basis, particularly to support endoscopy and elective services.
Main duties of the job
Applications are invited for the post of Locum Appointment for Services (LAS) in gastro/GIM. The appointee will join a team of eight gastroenterologists in a dynamic, thriving department providing gastroenterology and endoscopy services to the population of South Manchester and beyond. The focus of the role is within endoscopy, and the postholder will work alongside the Consultants who provide tertiary endoscopy services to acquire new skills in a supportive learning environment.
A comprehensive and expanding endoscopy service is provided by the Trust; all diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic modalities are performed including EUS and capsule endoscopy and a tertiary ERCP service. There is a gastroenterologist led nutrition support team and close collaboration with our colleagues in the departments of Surgery, Radiology and Histopathology. In addition, the Trust houses a tertiary Functional Bowel Disorder Service including hypnotherapy with a state-of-the-art neurogastroenterology laboratory undertaking procedures including EAUS, anorectal physiology testing and HRM with impedence pH monitoring.
The appointee will have the opportunity to attend Endoscopy as well as ward rounds and research . The appointee will be on a GIM on call rota with. The postholder will have ample opportunity to acquire practical acute medical skills.
