Job overview

We’re delighted to invite applications to join the team of senior clinical pharmacists in Urgent and Emergency Care (UEC) at the Queens Medical Centre. The post holder will primarily work on the acute medicine unit and be part of the core same day emergency care (SDEC) multidisciplinary team but will also work in other areas within UEC which include ED, level 1 care area and acute medicine receiving area.

The acute admissions unit is one of the largest in the country, so we’ve created a large clinical pharmacy team to deliver an excellent 7 day service.

The post offers an outstanding opportunity to develop your portfolio of clinical knowledge and skills for the management of patients as part of the friendly, progressive and dynamic multidisciplinary team, as well as build on your leadership abilities.

If not already obtained then the post holder may be supported through the independent prescribing course.

Main duties of the job

  • You will deliver a high standard of medicine optimisation ideally utilising your prescribing skills.
  • You will work closely with the MDT, on & off the ward.
  • You will have opportunities to support governance, education and medication safety.
  • You will be expected to line manage one of the band 6 pharmacists, providing mentoring, and supporting them with their development and objectives.
  • You will be expected to be involved in quality improvement work within acute medicine, and aim to publish your work to share your findings.
  • You will be working a shift pattern over 7 days, and time off to compensate is built in to the rota ensuring a good work-life balance.

  • Supporting and providing the clinical pharmacy service to the UEC directorate, and the wider Medicine Division where necessary.
  • Actively participating in consultant-led ward rounds to promote and support medicines optimisation, antimicrobial stewardship and effective discharge planning.
  • Involvement in education and training of a variety of healthcare professionals including diploma & pre-registration pharmacists, undergraduates and trainee advanced nurse practitioners.
  • Participate in back-up senior on-call rota supporting junior pharmacists
