Main duties of the job

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) delivers a busy and complex cardiac and congenital cardiac surgery service, with our large perfusion team central to supporting safe care and achieving some of the strongest patient outcomes in England. We are seeking experienced Senior Clinical Perfusion Scientists to join our Cardiovascular and Thoracic care group, recognised as a regional centre of excellence.

Successful applicants will be familiar with all adult cardiac surgical techniques, including cell salvage, point‑of‑care blood analysis, DHCA and ECMO. Paediatric and ACHD experience would be beneficial but is not essential.

The department currently offers a 37.5‑hour, 3‑day working week.

The Trust is offering a recruitment and retention premium for this role totalling £5,000 p.a. (pro rata) and can also provide relocation support. T&Cs will apply and can be discussed at interview.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Currently, the cardiac team undertakes 1800 adults and 400 paediatric procedures per year across our five cardiac theatres. You must be accredited by the Society of Perfusionists of Great Britain & Ireland and registered with the College of Clinical Perfusionists of Great Britain & Ireland. This role attracts an additional Recruitment and Retention Premium (see details below), a contribution to relocation costs for eligible candidates as well as an exceptional NHSP rate for additional shifts.

You will be expected to deliver high quality care within the framework of a multi-disciplinary team. You will be well supported by an experienced inter-professional team.

The successful applicant will be expected to carry out various administrative duties associated with the role and will be delegated additional responsibilities as required. Full participation in the department on-call rota is essential.
