Job overview

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Research Fellow post at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust on the Denmark Hill site. This 1-year fixed-term post offers the potential for extension for a further year. The role is ideal for doctors at ST3 level or above who have completed at least two years of training in obstetrics and gynaecology in the UK and wish to gain hands-on experience in antenatal ultrasound and the management of high-risk pregnancies, including hypertension, renal disease and autoimmune conditions.

Main duties of the job

Candidates will participate in a one-stop, integrated clinic that provides individualised care for both mother and baby, while also engaging in cutting-edge research and contributing to publications and academic projects. The post includes on-call duties at ST3-5 level, with opportunities to pursue advanced training modules (ATSMs) and develop expertise in maternal medicine and antenatal care.

This post is ideal for candidates seeking out-of-programme experience or research-focused roles to support an MD/PhD thesis. Applications are invited for a post commencing  in October 2026.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This Clinical Research Fellow post is designed for doctors at ST3 level or above who wish to:

  • Develop expertise in antenatal ultrasound and the management of preeclampsia and high-risk pregnancies.
  • Gain practical, hands-on experience in maternal-fetal medicine, including the management of a wide spectrum of maternal medicine problems such as diabetes, renal disease, and autoimmune diseases.
  • Engage in clinical research and contribute to evidence-based practice.
  • Pursue advanced training modules (e.g., Maternal Medicine or Advanced Antenatal Care ATSMs).

The role offers a unique blend of clinical practice, research, and teaching, providing an ideal platform for career progression in academic obstetrics or maternal-fetal medicine.
