The vacancy has arisen in the Trauma & Orthopaedics department for a senior orthopaedic trainee to commence ASAP until 6th October 2026.
This post has been developed as a training opportunity for registrars. In Bradford Hospitals trust we offer a range of specialty and subspecialty care to our patients and thus training is available in a number of subspecialties with experienced consultant surgeons.
The post is not recognised for training by the Postgraduate Dean, although the duties and shift pattern are exactly the same as the training posts and study leave will be encouraged on an equivalent basis to that which applies to the educationally approved SHOs. The post will be on a 1:9 on-call commitment.

Main duties of the job
- Management of orthopaedic patients under post-holder's consultant’s care.
- Conducting of orthopaedic clinics under the supervision of the Consultant.
- Undertake theatre lists on orthopaedic patients under the supervision of a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon.
- To participate in the management of the Department, ensuring that appropriate deputising arrangement are made and supervising the day-to-day clinical work of the CT's and FY2’s in the department.
- Committed to maintaining a high standard of note-keeping and communication with General Practitioners. He/she will be involved in preparing information for entry onto the Electronic patient Record. In preparing Discharge Summaries of patient's under the care of the consultant for whom he/she is working at the time.
- Any other duties commensurate with the grade which may be allocated from time to time.
- Undertake pre-operative assessment and obtain consent for procedures.
- Supporting Professional Activities.
- Participate in and contribute towards the teaching programme of medical and non-medical staff e.g.; journal clubs, tutorials, lectures, clinical meetings.
- Keep up-to-date records to satisfy continuous professional development requirements. Assist in Trust clinical risk management requirements.
- Undertake research, if desired, as directed by supervising consultant for the directorate.
- Clinical Management duties as delegated and agreed by the lead clinician or clinical director.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The Clinical fellow in orthopaedics and trauma will work alongside Core Trainees and Foundation Year doctors on the junior rota. Duties will involve the medical and orthopaedic management of orthopaedic patients, the assessment of patients in the Emergency Department and assisting in theatre.
The orthopaedic department is committed to education and training with a teaching programme for juniors and journal club. Trainees are encouraged to attend fracture clinic and outpatients. There are plenty of opportunities to get involved in departmental audit and research activity.

Direct Clinical Care
- Day-to-day management of orthopaedic patients under post-holder's consultant’s care.
- Care of out-patients, including the conducting of orthopaedic clinics under the supervision of the Consultant.
- To undertake theatre lists on orthopaedic patients under the supervision of a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon.
- The post-holder is expected to participate in the management of the Department, especially in ensuring that appropriate deputising arrangement are made, when necessary, and supervising the day-to-day clinical work of the CT's and FY2’s in the department.
- The post-holder is expected to be committed to maintaining a high standard of note-keeping and communication with General Practitioners. He/she will be involved in preparing information for entry to the hospital's Clinical Information System and in preparing Discharge Summaries of patient's under the care of the consultant for whom he/she is working at the time.
- Any other duties commensurate with the grade which may be allocated from time to time.
