Applications are invited for a Senior Clinical Fellow in Respiratory Medicine. The post is available from August 2026 for 12 months initially with a possible extension. The post is specifically for a Clinical Fellow in Pleural Intervention/Pleural Disease and is based at the Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport, South Wales and the Grange University Hospital, SE Wales.
The Grange University Hospital is a busy new modern specialist and intensive care centre, where the brand new top of the range thoracoscopy service is based (endoscopy unit). Pleural clinics are based in St Woolos chest clinic. The Pleural Ambulatory Unit (PAU) is based in the Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport.
These are the current applicable pay scales; however, these may change upon implementation of the framework agreement for reform to the terms and conditions of service for resident doctors and dentists in Wales. Further details can be found at BMA+-+Framework+Agreement+Wales.
The successful applicant will be expected to take part in local and national audits as well as research project where we already have links with Pleural Units at Bristol and Oxford as well as take part in the lung cancer trials.
The successful applicant will be part of the Faculty for the twice yearly ABHB thoracic US course and will be part of the organising group for the yearly All Wales Pleural seminar.
The post has been accredited by the Royal College of Physicians; the applicant will receive the same training and experience in line with existing specialist registrar training in Respiratory Medicine. The posts would ideally suit someone who has completed the PACES examination, either SpR in respiratory medicine level or IMT grades with some experience in Respiratory Medicine and wishes to look at developing a sub specialist interest in pleural procedures and pleural disease. However, this is not essential and the work commitments of the team will be reviewed and adjusted to that of a more junior or more senior level but both of the potential job timetables provide excellent experience in Pleural Respiratory Medicine.
You will be expected to participate in the acute general medicine on call rota.
