Job overview

The post is to work as a Senior Clinical Fellow (ST 3-4 equivalent) within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology currently on a full shift system. The appointee will be responsible to the Consultant/s to whom they are attached. There is a dedicated directorate training lead to support educational and pastoral needs for locally employed doctors.

The main duties will be to support the running of the Obstetric and Gynaecological services on the Royal Preston Hospital site and at Chorley District Hospital.

Main duties of the job

1. To work within the delivery suite to provide input to the routine and the emergency workload at first on-call level. You will be expected to have adequate experience to enable you to work competently at the ST3 level.

2.  To assist elective Caesarean Sections.

  • 3.  To work within the Ante-natal clinics, Maternity Triage as well as maternity, antenatal and postnatal wards

4.    To assist in the provision of an Emergency Gynaecology Service as a first on-call level.

5.    To work within the Gynaecology clinics and wards

6.  To assist Gynaecological surgery

  • 7.  On-call duties are on a 1: 8 full shift system. Initially this is alongside and supporting a senior obstetrics and gynaecology trainee doctor (ST3-6) on the 2nd on call rota and then progressing to the increased seniority itself. 8. To support undergraduate education in the department- time and training will be allocated on the rota for this role.
