Job overview

Senior Neonatal Fellow in NICU (0.6-0.8 WTE)

Applications are invited for a Senior Neonatal Fellow to join the NICU at St Michael’s hospital, combining clinical work at ST4+ level. The post is for a period of 6 months initially from February 2025. This is an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified candidate to enhance their experience in tertiary level neonatal intensive care. The regional NICU at St Michael’s Hospital provides regional tertiary neonatal intensive care for medical patients and supra-regional services for infants with surgical, neurosurgical and cardiac problems. It also acts as the base unit for the regional Neonatal Transport team.

This post would be suitable as a stand-alone fellowship, or as out-of-programme experience. St Michael’s NICU was rated in the top quartile (dark green) of neonatal placements for clinical experience, curriculum coverage, supportive environment and overall satisfaction on the 2018 GMC survey and the unit has a strong ethos of inclusion and development of our staff.

Applicants should have a minimum of 12 months experience at ST4+/SpR level or equivalent in neonatal medicine, be registered with the GMC and eligible to work in the UK.

Main duties of the job

This is an exciting opportunity for a 6-month fellowship (with potential to extend) for a suitably qualified candidate to receive training and experience in tertiary level neonatal intensive care.  There are opportunities to develop education, simulation training and neonatal transport skills dependent on the applicants’ interests.  The regional NICU at St Michael’s Hospital provides regional tertiary neonatal intensive care for medical patients and supra-regional services for infants with surgical, neurosurgical and cardiac problems. It also supports the regional South West Neonatal Advice and Retrieval (SoNAR) service team.

The post holder will have a named educational supervisor, and will be mentored and supported by the sub-speciality education leads for NICU. Previous experience in Neonatal medicine at registrar/tier 2 level in tertiary level neonatal medicine is essential. St Michael’s NICU was rated in the top quartile (dark green) of neonatal placements for clinical experience, curriculum coverage, supportive environment and overall satisfaction on the 2018 GMC survey.
