Main duties of the job

Post 1 Senior Clinical Fellow in General Medicine

The ST3-level clinical duties will include in-patient duties as part of a team managing patients admitted under general medicine consultants. This will include providing support to junior colleagues. There will be the opportunity to attend out-patient clinics in one of the . Depending on interest successful candidates may have the opportunity to be involved with specialist referrals.

Post 2 Endoscopy Academy Senior Clinical Fellow

Clinical duties will include ward-based working gaining experience in both luminal and hepatology firms with supervised outpatient clinics and a regular  endoscopy training list (gastroscopy or colonoscopy) per week if appropriate. Participation in the GIM on call rota and the opportunity to participate during daylight hours in a speciality gastroenterology SpR rota for inpatients speciality reviews of patients under diverse teams with consultant support. The Royal Hallamshire and Northern General Consultants will supervise this clinical service.  Some sessions may be flexibly worked depending on space limitations in the outpatient and endoscopy departments.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Endoscopy Academy Senior Clinical Fellow

The appointed Endoscopy Academy Clinical Fellow will also be offered a 4-week immersion training block in their chose endoscopic modality. This will involve 5 to 6 training lists per week, without interruption from other clinical commitments other than, up to, 2 outpatient clinics. The immersion block will also allow administrative/research time.

The ward-based working is at the Northern General Hospital with 3 clinical teams (2 luminal 1 hepatology) looking after 2 base ward Robert Hadfield 3 and 4 (56 beds) and outliers. We have daily Consultant led ward rounds, daily board rounds and supported MDT ward rounds in nutrition, inflammatory bowel disease and alcohol liaison services. There is a strong team ethic, and we have close working relationships with GI surgical services, GI physiology, GI radiology, GI histopathology and Pharmacy. The post is not a formally approved training post (ie it does not hold NTN status). However, it is possible that some of the clinical components of the post may be recognised as counting towards training in gastroenterology/hepatology (to be negotiated with the Training Programme Director).
