Job overview

This post is for a Senior Clinical Fellow in Geriatric Medicine. This is a whole time post offering an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Medic to join a dynamic, rapidly expanding team delivering multidisciplinary acute care in Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals.

This is a fixed term post until 5th August 2025. Plus, On-Call allowance and enhancements.

Due to the short-term nature of the role/service demand, the successful candidate must hold full registration with the GMC and have existing right to live and work in the UK, at the time of application. Candidates who are not GMC registered or do not hold existing right to live and work in the UK, at the time of application will not progress through the shortlisting stage.

Main duties of the job

Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities

Contribute as a middle grade in the running of one of the Geriatric wards – 5A, 5B, Frailty services and Stroke unit at Whiston/St Helens Hospitals

Participate in the General Medicine on call rota as a middle grade/Registrar

Liaise with other members of the clinical team and other specialties

Advise FY1’s, CT Trainees and ANPs about management of patients

Develop skills in managing the wards to avoid unnecessary patient delays and maintain good clinical care to all patients.

Professional Responsibilities

To participate in clinical audit and activities.

To participate in continuing professional development. Study leave is to be negotiated. Educational supervision will be provided.

To maintain a portfolio of training.

To comply with Trust policies and procedures, have (and maintain) GMC registration /licensing.

Administrative Responsibilities

To ensure good documentation and record keeping

To ensure all admin tasks including are complete within local Trust targets.

Teaching & Training Responsibilities

To attend educational opportunities where appropriate

To maintain a portfolio of training.

Research & Audit Responsibilities

To be involved in departmental audit/research/QIPs

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • 1.     To observe the provisions of and adhere to all Trust policies and procedures. 2.     To actively participate in the annual performance review to identify personal development needs 3.     To attend Trust Statutory and Mandatory training sessions as required and any other training courses relevant to the post. 4.     To fully comply with the relevant sections of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.  They must also understand and implement Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Hospitals Trust “Statement of Policy on Health and Safety at Work” and the Trust corporate “Health and Safety Policies and Procedures”.  You are required to follow all applicable rules and procedures relating to Health and Safety at Work and to take all responsible precautions to avoid actions. 5.     To be aware of the confidential aspects of the post. To keep up to date with the requirements of information governance; undertake mandatory training and follow Trust policies and procedures to ensure that trust information is dealt with legally, securely, efficiently, and effectively. Breaches of confidentiality will result in disciplinary action that may involve dismissal. You must maintain the confidentiality of information about service user staff and organisational business in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulations 2018 and Caldicott principles.
