Will take part in the 1 in 8 Obstetric Rota at ST Helier Hospital

The Department: The Anaesthetic department at Epsom & St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust covers a wide variety of elective, day case, and emergency surgery on two main sites. We currently cover one Intensive care unit and one High Dependency Unit, two obstetrics units and provide elective anaesthesia at both sites. Emergency surgery of all specialties is concentrated at St Helier Hospital, while the majority of the elective work is performed at Epsom General Hospital. The post holder will be encouraged to attend weekly educational departmental meetings which occur on both sites.

Main duties of the job

On Call Duties: The post holder will be required to be on call at either Epsom or St Helier Hospital. The senior clinical fellow will be supported at all times by the Consultants and be expected to supervise junior fellows. As per experience and seniority, the on call rota slot will be allocated either on the senior tier (labour ward and paediatric emergencies) or junior tier (StH theatres or Epsom HDU)

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

.Duties of the Post:  Assessment, care and treatment of patients presenting acutely to the specialty and referred to the specialty.  Teaching and training staff in other medical disciplines, nursing and support staff as appropriate.  Communication with other team members as appropriate. Participation in relevant audit and quality assurance processes.  Abide by the Clinical & Corporate Governance policies of the Trust.  To make sure that the guidance from the General Medical Council on Good Medical Practice is at the centre of your clinical practice. To keep up to date in Anaesthetics knowledge by Continuous Medical Education in the best interest of the patient.  Although a timetable will be provided, you will be expected to be flexible, in the interests of patient care and to meet the needs of the department as decided by the general manager and coordinating surgeon.  To contribute to the wider corporate and organizational needs of the Trust as appropriate.
