Job overview

This is a fixed term appointment for a period of one year based wholly at Wye Valley NHS Trust in Hereford where the successful applicant will join our friendly and enthusiastic education team whilst also spending half of their time in a clinical specialty: we are offering a post in Anaesthesia at CT3/ ST3 equivalent level. Appointees will be expected to participate in the resident out-of-hours on-call rota which may be in theatre anaesthesia (1st on), Obstetric Anaesthesia (2nd on) or Intensive Care Medicine (3rd on): these duties form the long days and nights of a full shift rota, with the normal working days spent in the Education team based at the Postgraduate Medical Centre.

This post is designed to support development in medical education for the post-holder through planning and delivery of teaching to medical students, junior doctors and multidisciplinary teams, whilst maintaining and progressing with clinical experience within anaesthesia. We also encourage and financially support the successful candidate to complete a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education (or equivalent credits).

Main duties of the job

We offer Consultant-led training opportunities with additional support to undertake management and leadership training, quality improvement projects, research, regional & national presentations and publication.

There are two fully equipped Simulation Suites including and a new multi-professional Clinical Skills and Simulation Academy. The Trust launched an Education Directorate in 2021 which supports and promotes shared learning across professional groups. We receive students from the Universities of Birmingham, Aston, Worcester and the Three Counties Medical School.

We have an extremely high number of Fellows who successfully use this year to springboard into competitive national training schemes, and are proud to have some of the best student feedback in the region.

"With the support of the faculty, this job allows you to maximise your portfolio of educational activities, undertake the PGCert with sponsorship should you choose to, and keep up clinical skills by remaining on the on call rota in your parent specialty." NT, Anaesthetic Senior Clinical Education Fellow on receiving preferred ST4 training post.

We combine these excellent educational and clinical opportunities with the friendly, supportive nature of a small district general hospital and the beauty of life in the Wye Valley.
