We are seeking an experienced midwife to join our multidisciplinary team delivering high quality maternity care within NHS Tayside. Based primarily in ward 38 this is a leadership position that combines clinical insight with a strong emphasis on managerial and non-clinical responsibilities aligned to the role of SCM.

You will provide clinical leadership to the midwifery team to ensure safe, respectful and effective care is delivered to every woman, every time.

As a visible and compassionate clinical leader, you will be an exemplar of person-centred care demonstrating mutual respect for women, families and colleagues who promotes a culture of professional respect and civility. You will be a midwife who strives to ensure that the maternity care delivered in Tayside is of the highest quality.

In your role, you will be responsible for managing and developing the performance of a team of midwives, HCSW and other support staff and may at times be required to provide care and support in other clinical areas across Tayside including the intrapartum setting as part of staffing escalation. You will be pivotal in supporting operational flow, workforce development and supporting both local and national guidance.

A large part of your role will be quality driven and there will be an expectation to both lead and participate in improvement work across the department to support both local and national maternity safety and improvement initiatives. This role will have a clinical element but will largely be focused on supporting application of quality measures within the department including those aligned to NHS workforce policies.

The postholder should be able to demonstrate relevant and extensive experience as a band 6 midwife and should align with the positive core values of NHS Tayside. The ideal candidate will have a commitment to lifelong professional development and an aptitude for developing others via a supportive facilitation approach.

The ideal candidate will understand the complexities of maternity care and in particular the common maternity pathways and conditions most frequently seen in our antenatal and postnatal care setting. The postholder will have the ability to lead under pressure and identify solutions in a fast paced and at times unpredictable clinical setting.

This role is advertised with a view to working hours being daytime Mon to Fri with the usual working hours aligned to a traditional 0800-1600 shift pattern. Some flexibility may be required to support clinical demand and service need and equally flexibility can be supported to meet individual needs where this does not detriment safe service provision.

In NHS Tayside we are committed to continuous quality improvement and the successful applicant will be part of a team that supports change and service development, ensuring women receive a consistently high standard of care. The successful applicant will demonstrate a values-based approach to work and bring with them an ability to balance empathy, expectations and accountability in their role as a visible clinical leader within our maternity setting.

The role requires some support of maternity co-ordinator bleep rota and aligned to the SCM role support for the NHS Tayside safety and flow huddles on site in Ninewells Hospital.
