Job overview

This post provides temporary Band 6 maternity leave cover within the Cardiac Physiology Service, supporting the delivery of a high‑quality, safe, and patient‑centred diagnostic service. The post holder will undertake advanced clinical responsibilities and support the leadership and day‑to‑day coordination of the service in line with Band 6 expectations.

The role includes providing expert cardiac investigations (such as ECG, ambulatory monitoring, exercise tolerance testing, and device implant/follow‑up support as appropriate), supporting service efficiency, maintaining clinical standards, and contributing to service development and quality improvement. The post holder will act as a senior clinical resource, supporting and supervising junior staff, students, and trainees, and contributing to training and competency development.

Working closely with the Cardiac Physiology Lead for CRM and the wider multidisciplinary team, the post holder will help ensure continuity of service, adherence to national guidelines, governance requirements, and excellent patient experience throughout the maternity leave period.

Main duties of the job

  • Deliver advanced cardiac diagnostic investigations in line with local protocols and national guidelines (including ECG, ambulatory monitoring, exercise testing, and device implant/follow‑up, as appropriate).
  • Act as a senior clinical resource within the Cardiac Physiology team, supporting complex clinical decision‑making and problem resolution.
  • Support the day‑to‑day coordination of Cardiac Physiology services to ensure safe, efficient, and patient‑focused care.
  • Supervise, mentor, and support junior staff, trainees, and students, contributing to training and competency development.
  • Maintain high standards of clinical governance, documentation, and patient safety, and contribute to audit and quality improvement activities.
  • Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team and support the CRM Lead Physiologist with service leadership and operational cover as required.
