Job summary

Main duties of the job

They will assist the audiologist in obtaining hearing test results from children through play-based activities within a clinical setting & support team members, ensuring that all activities are carried out within their level of training, competence and knowledge. Working with established procedures and care pathways, the postholder will deliver safe, effective and patient-centred support, contributing to the overall quality of audiology services

The postholder will work efficiently and confidently guided by established policies and procedures to screen children's hearing within a school setting. They will develop and maintain the necessary knowledge and skills to perform and record hearing screens safely and accurately

Responsibilities include carrying out the hearing screening programme unsupervised, ensuring each child receives appropriate follow-up. The postholder will liaise with schools in advance of visit to notify and prepare staff, ensuring smooth coordination of screening session. Effective communication with professional colleagues in both health & education is essential as is the ability to engage sensitively and reassuringly with children, including those with additional learning needs. The postholder will use tact and empathy to gain children's cooperation and maintain a calm, quiet environment to obtain a hearing test.
