Job overview

CAVHIS provides clinical care to Asylum Seekers, Refugees, Homeless patients, those on Probation, engaging in Parlour work and patients in the Alternative Treatment Scheme, ATS (formerly known as Safe Haven).

CAVHIS is also the designated primary agency in Wales responsible for providing Initial Health Assessments (IAs) and immediate health care support to new asylum seekers, as well as some groups of refugees. People who are registered have access to a GP, Nurse, Health Visitor, Midwife and the British Red Cross. There is an appointment system with triage and booking systems also in place for emergency, same day appointments if appropriate.

In addition, CAVHIS provides outreach homeless services with GPs supporting specialist homeless nurses. This service facilitates access to healthcare for homeless patients who are not registered with a local GP or who may require urgent medical care which they are struggling to access through conventional routes. The ATS provides a secure environment for patients who have previously been violent or aggressive in General Practice, to have their clinical needs met. Appointments are 20 minutes long and care is provided by the GP and a nurse. Security staff are always in attendance to ensure the safety of staff and other patients.
