Main duties of the job

  • To review prescriptions for their clinical appropriateness, safety and legality as required by current legislation
  • To provide a high quality, customer focused pharmaceutical service to in-patients, discharge patients, community clinics, and outlying nursing homes both within standard hours and out-of-hours.   To provide inpatient and out-patient dispensing services to the Western Eye Hospital.
  • To input prescription information using the Pharmacy Computer system.
  • To dispense and supply drugs to patients (including using the automated dispensing system (‘Robot’).
  • To undertake the final technical accuracy check
  • To provide evaluated pharmaceutical advice and information, to all health care professionals and patients of the Trust using on-line data bases and primary sources
  • To help prepare extemporaneous non-sterile and sterile products (currently CXH and HH only)
  • To uphold the security of drugs and the premises at all times
  • To have a working knowledge of pharmacy stock control and ordering systems
  • To collect and handle prescription monies according to the Government and Trust policies
