York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust are looking for a highly motivated, and enthusiastic registered Pharmacy Technician to join our friendly team at York Hospital. We welcome applicants from all pharmacy sectors - hospital experience is not necessary as full training will be provided on the job.

As a Rotational Pharmacy Technician, you will be supported to develop your knowledge and skills in various areas of pharmacy on a rota basis, including:

  • Dispensary.
  • Ward based - Medicines Management and Optimisation.
  • Procurement and distribution.
  • Specialist services including quality assurance and clinical governance.

Each area will provide you with an individually tailored induction plan for that service.

You will be eligible for progression from Band 4 into a Band 5 role after being in post for a minimum of 12 months, and once demonstrating you have met all the key responsibilities for the role.

Main duties of the job

Applicants must be registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the GPHC. You must have strong problem-solving skills, be self-motivated and organised.

Applicants must be able to work effectively as part of a team and also alone, using initiative to prioritise tasks.

You will play a key role in the provision of Pharmacy services by helping us deliver and improve quality of patient care, contributing to service developments and innovation across the Trust.

Key elements of the role are:

  • Labelling and dispensing both inpatient and discharge prescriptions for patients.
  • Performing accuracy checks on dispensed medications (full training will provided if not already obtained).
  • Completing a ward stock top up service.
  • Completing medicine reconciliations for patients; ensuring that any discrepancies are communicated efficiently an supporting patient counselling.
  • Procuring medicines and chasing outstanding orders.
  • Taking part SOP reviews, completion of audits and supporting any allocated service improvements.
