Job overview

The post holder will primarily work in the Distribution section of the department, ensuring that medications are sent in a timely and organised manner to wards and departments throughout Princess of Wales Hospital.

Stock management is crucial within pharmacy; this involves checking, receiving and storing medicines. Ensuring that medicines are stored appropriately and securely, participating in stock-taking and the checking of medicines, is an important part of this role, so attention to detail is vital.

To support the Pharmacy Logistics Service in providing safe, effective and efficient pharmacy purchasing and distribution services.

To work within Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and be guided by professional good practice guidelines.

To work as part of a team and also work independently, using own initiative to deal with routine enquiries e.g availability and supply of medicines to wards, referring to the Technician or a Pharmacist if necessary.

Main duties of the job

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, hard working and reliable individual with good communication and interpersonal skills to join our friendly and dedicated team in the Pharmacy Department at the Princess of Wales Hospital, Bridgend. As a rotational pharmacy assistant you will move between the Dispensary and Pharmacy Store. Your duties will be varied and wide-ranging and will include: Dispensary based activities of: -receptionist duties - dispensing prescriptions for inpatient, outpatient and discharge medication Store based activities of: - Receipt, unpacking, checking off and putting away deliveries of pharmaceutical items, issue and assembly of stock medication including I.V. fluids - delivery of assembled and dispensed medication to wards and departments. The ideal candidate will be flexible in their approach to their work, conscientious and a team player with the ability to be an accurate, methodical worker with good attention to detail.

Previous work experience is essential. No formal qualifications are needed but you will be required to work towards and obtain the Certificate in Pharmacy Services Skills (NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services), using the in-house training provided, and be committed to continuous professional development.
