We invite applications to join our team of Rotational On Call Band 6 Pharmacists who provide front line medicines management services to children and their families at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Great Ormond Street Hospital is a truly global hospital at the forefront of research, training and clinical practice in Paediatric Care where you can develop your skills and knowledge. You will benefit from our rotational program and work towards achieving a Postgraduate Diploma in General Pharmacy Practice, through UCL. This provides a framework to support your education; ensuring you develop the knowledge and skills not only to treat common adult conditions but enabling you to focus on Paediatric care and specialties within GOSH.

You will benefit from working alongside world leading Pharmacists and clinicians, rotating through a range of core services and clinical specialties. These include medicines information and pharmacy governance, and technical services whilst providing clinical pharmacy services on our wards.

Main duties of the job

  • To effectively clinical screen prescriptions and professionally resolve any problems or refer when appropriate.
  • To participate, in the medicines management programme / clinical ward pharmacy services involving any of the following: ensuring accurate drug histories are taken and documented; patients own drug are reconciled; dispensing for discharge is facilitated; dispensing of medicines on the ward for patients to take home; communicate effectively with patients to improve adherence
  • To review prescriptions for their clinical appropriateness, safety and legality as required by current legislation
  • To provide a high quality, customer focused pharmaceutical service to patients under the care of GOSH or whereby GOSH provides advice and consultancy services.
  • To participate in education and training schemes and meetings organised within the department
  • To participate in education and training of foundation pharmacy, technicians and assistants
  • To facilitate 24-hour access to pharmaceutical advice and medicines supply through the delivery of an on call service
  • To participate in audit
  • To participate in all relevant departmental meetings and contribute to effective communication within the department
