Job overview

Working as part of the Maternity Governance team, the postholder will support the effective management, review and learning from clinical incidents, with a particular focus on improving patient safety and quality of care within maternity services.

The Risk Support Midwife will be accountable to the Risk and Governance Midwife, who will provide professional leadership, oversight and support. The post holder will assist in delivering a robust governance framework, ensuring that incidents reported via Datix are reviewed in a timely, consistent and high-quality manner.  They will support the identification of themes, trends and learning, contributing to the development of action plans and ensuring that learning is embedded into clinical practice.

The role will involve liaising with MDT clinical teams, to ensure that incidents are reviewed consistently and that actions are meaningful, and measurable.

This role will also include supporting family liaison, ensuring that women and families are appropriately informed, involved and supported through review processes, in line with Duty of Candour requirements. The post holder will work sensitively and compassionately, contributing to  transparent communication.

This post requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and clinical experience to underpin. The post holder will require the ability to communicate complex information clearly, supporting both learning dissemination and service improvement across the organisation.

  • Incident review and investigation through Datix
  • Writing quality timelines with attention to detail and identifying key lines of enquiry through investigation
  • Working under the supervision of a Band 7 Governance Midwife and deputising where appropriate
  • Family Liaison and Duty of Candour Support
  • Identifying learning and areas for quality improvement
  • Working under the PSIRF framework
  • Promoting a safety culture and improving staff engagement
