An opportunity has arisen for a full time band 5 Respiratory Physiologist to join our friendly team in the Department of Respiratory Physiology at  Bournemouth and Poole Hospital. We are the top performing acute trust in this year’s NHS Staff Survey, making this a fantastic work environment in a beautiful part of the country.

This busy department within a larger multidisciplinary Thoracic / Respiratory  team currently provides a range of lung function investigations.  These include Spirometry, reversibility, FeNO, Gas transfer, static lung volumes, bronchial provocation and overnight oximetry assessment.

Candidates must be capable of organising their own workload, and be reliable, enthusiastic and flexible.

We are looking for a highly motivated, forward thinking team member who can demonstrate competency and accuracy in respiratory investigations. Applicants should possess a BSc. in Clinical Physiology or equivalent and / or  ARTP Practitioner qualification, and be eligible to be RCCP registered.

We are keen to assist in continuing professional development, training and support will be provided to develop existing skills in all clinical areas

Main duties of the job

  • To be able to perform Respiratory physiological tests, independently (after training / supervision) within policies/procedures,  as per job description.
  • To obtain accurate and informative results from patients and any other subjects performing the tests, and provide a basic technical report to the referrer.
  • To supervise and train less experienced staff
  • To supervise and encourage patients during their time in the department and deal with any queries or problems in a suitable manner.  When appropriate, discuss results with patients using discretion, awareness of patient confidentiality and cross any barriers to understanding.
  • To communicate effectively with department colleagues and other members of the trust in all aspects of patient care and respiratory physiology
  • To aim to complete objectives set during appraisal. Involvement in Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and attendance at relevant internal/external courses, seminars, lectures etc in which appropriate information can be gained relating to physiological, scientific and medical matters.

Performing basic and  routine diagnostic tests without direct supervision.

Performing complex   tests with direct supervision, until proven / achieved the necessary competency

Actively perform in audit, training, department service improvement.

Involved in training junior / student staff where appropriate

Supporting Senior / Lead Respiratory Physiologists where required
