Main duties of the job

As a band 5 research nurse you will provide  specialist research and clinical care to research participants within your team's study portfolio. You will assist in the management, coordination and implementation of research programmes and you will help to provide clinical supervision to other staff and students. You will also have the opportunity to collaborate with other research teams to deliver research studies. You may also have the opportunity to be involved in quality initiatives including audits and projects.   You will report to your band 6/7 line manager and then to the band 8 research matron.

You will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary team members and as some studies are delivered across a variety of settings, the ability to travel between different clinical locations is required.

The successful candidates must be NMC registered nurses with experience in relevant clinical specialities. Additionally excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential combined with knowledge and experience in IT skills,  report writing, team work, time management and you must be able to demonstrate use of organisation, initiative and prioritisation. You must also be flexible and able to work different shift patterns when needed.

We are seeking registered nurses who are enthusiastic and self motivated and aspire to further their career in clinical research.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Research is a rewarding and patient-centred career. The research at UHS is focused on a holistic approach to patient care and significantly contributes to the further progress of healthcare for all.

We strive to ensure that research is considered as a treatment option for all eligible participants whether patients or volunteers. We work closely with hospital clinical teams and within patient clinical pathways to ensure that research opportunities are met.

We currently have an exciting opportunity in our Clinical Research Facility (CRF) based at Southampton General Hospital, for two NMC registered nurses to join our adult research nursing team and rheumatology research nursing team as full-time Band 5 research nurses. As part of the team you will work with  clinical and non-clinical teams to support the delivery of clinical research in the CRF and in the clinical areas.

The CRF adult team focuses on early phase research and human challenge studies in areas such as neurodegenerative diseases, as well as nutrition, respiratory disease, vaccine, allergy and infection. The rheumatology research team focuses on all phases of research in rheumatological conditions and diseases. Clinical research experience is not necessary although is advantageous.
