Job overview

Registrar in Neurological Rehabilitation

The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

The Alderbourne Rehabilitation Unit (ARU) is a 20-bed district specialist neurological rehabilitation unit that has been providing inpatient and outpatient services to the residents of Hillingdon and adjoining areas for the past 25 years. Daniels Rehabilitation Unit is a 16-bed unit that was commissioned in 2013 at the Mount Vernon Hospital site. Since March 2023, Daniels Ward has been relocated to the Hillingdon site. Together the two units have transformed patient flows in NorthWest London for patients needing neurological rehabilitation.

The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to recruit a registrar in Rehabilitation Medicine to support the Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine, Consultant in Neurology and the multidisciplinary team. All the consultants work at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust as well and the unit works closely with the Charing Cross Neurological Rehabilitation Unit. The post will primarily be based on the acute Hillingdon Hospital site.

Main duties of the job

Summary of responsibilities:

The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the 20 inpatients on the Alderbourne Rehabilitation Unit and supervising 2 junior clinical fellows. This will include attending weekly consultant ward rounds and the inter-disciplinary ward meeting. Duties will include reviewing the inpatients attending Case Conferences, ordering and following up on relevant investigations, documentation in the medical records and ensuring the electronic and multidisciplinary discharge letters are completed on time. A sound general medical experience and communication skills are essential. The candidate will have the opportunity to attend neurology clinics under the supervision of a consultant neurologist and Rehabilitation Medicine clinics with Dr Nair. All doctors at ARU and DRU cross cover each other’s leave.

The post will be for 6 months and has arisen because of a gap in the London Deanery Rehabilitation Medicine rotation. Opportunity exists for the post holder to participate in audit, grand rounds in the department of medicine at Hillingdon and relevant training.
