Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Registered Nurse to join our established 33-bedded Diabetes & Endocrinology ward at West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust.

We are a specialist medical ward delivering high-quality care to patients with complex diabetes and endocrine conditions alongside acute medical co-morbidities. Our patient group includes individuals requiring management of DKA, insulin pump therapy, variable rate insulin infusions, complex medication optimisation and structured patient education to support safe discharge.

This is a dynamic and rewarding clinical environment that will strengthen your acute assessment skills, medicines management competence and confidence in complex case management.

About Our Team

Our ward is recognised for its strong team culture, visible leadership and commitment to professional development. Originally developed to support winter escalation pressures, the service has evolved into a stable, high-performing specialist ward with excellent staff engagement and retention.

We foster an open, honest and supportive culture where:

  • Psychological safety is prioritised
  • Distributed leadership is encouraged
  • Learning from incidents drives improvement
  • Staff are supported to progress into senior and specialist roles

We work closely with Diabetes Specialist Nurses, Endocrinology Consultants, Dietitians, Pharmacists, Allied Health Professionals and community services to ensure safe, coordinated and patient-centred care.

Main duties of the job

This role offers the opportunity to:

  • Develop specialist knowledge in diabetes and endocrine medicine
  • Strengthen acute medical nursing skills within a supportive environment
  • Build confidence in insulin management and medicines optimisation
  • Contribute to patient education and self-management initiatives
  • Participate in quality improvement and governance activities
  • Progress within a ward that actively supports career development

Newly qualified nurses are welcome and will receive structured preceptorship support. Experienced nurses will find opportunity for further clinical development and leadership growth.

Who We Are Looking For

We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Registered Nurse who:

  • Demonstrates strong clinical judgement and accountability
  • Values teamwork and professional integrity
  • Is committed to delivering high standards of patient care
  • Wishes to develop expertise within a specialist medical field
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment

You must hold current UK NMC registration at the point of interview.
