Registered Nurse Band 6 - The Heart Centre  - Cumberland Infirmary

The post holder will work as part of the team to provide safe, effective environment for patients, relatives and carers.

Take regular charge of the ward/unit as required. Contribute as requested by the ward manager/charge nurse to the smooth running of the ward through the acceptance of agreed additional responsibilities.

Main duties of the job

  • Manage and provide all aspects of patient care. Maintaining Privacy and dignity of all patients. Adhering to trust and department policies.
  • Act in accordance with the NMC code of professional conduct and demonstrates trust core values and behaviours.
  • All Staff to work within designated role as scrub/circulating nurse within the PCI labs and participate in the out of hours on primary percutaneous intervention on call rota.
  • Work within the cardiology departments, such as Willow C ward, CCU and The heart centre.
  • Demonstrate practice based on current advances in nursing practice and research.
  • Develop and establish evidence-based practice that contributes to the development and evaluation of nursing procedures in the unit.
  • Undertake extended role skills as required, e.g. administration of IV drugs, defibrillation, venepuncture, cannulation
  • Direct patient care by assessing, analysing patient data obtained form observations, blood results, and monitoring equipment and acting on those accordingly. Recognising the deteriorating patient and escalating to clinicians.
  • Advise and recommend nursing interventions and changes to patient care following assessment, e.g. changes to pressure area care, changes to oxygen delivery.
  • Administer intravenous drugs, record effect, and titrate to physiological parameters.
  • Comply with infection prevention and control procedures at all times
