University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust covers a large geographic area which encompasses the Furness peninsula, the city of Lancaster and the Lake District.

We currently have a vacancy for a 32 hour part-time registered nurse in Ophthalmology at Furness General Hospital.

We provide a comprehensive range of acute and support hospital services to a population of 350,000 based around Morecambe Bay. One of the largest employers in the area, we have approximately 6,000 staff working across five sites; Furness General Hospital (Barrow in Furness), Royal Lancaster Infirmary, Westmorland General Hospital (Kendal), Ulverston Community Health Centre and Queen Victoria Centre (Morecambe).

Main duties of the job

The Ophthalmology department cares for patients of all ages attending a wide range of ophthalmic clinics. We have Doctor / Nurse led clinics on all sites. Within this post you will work in general and specialised Ophthalmology clinics including emergencies, laser treatment and nurse led assessment. This post also supports day care surgical lists.

You will undergo in house training specialising in Ophthalmic Nursing care and development, with the opportunity in the future to undertake the specialised courses.

You will be expected to complete the ophthalmic competencies that are required to work in the department.
