An opportunity has arisen at the Orthodontic Department for Qualified Dental Nurse. This is a busy outpatient department delivering all aspects of Orthodontic care, both treatment clinics, new patient clinics and multi-disciplinary clinics.

The post is fixed term until 03 January 2027. Experience in Orthodontic nursing is desirable but not essential as training will be given.

Main duties of the job

This is an opportunity to join an established team, providing support to and working alongside Orthodontic consultants and those in post graduate training posts.   The role of the Registered Dental Nurse in providing high standards of clinical care and support to all grades of Orthodontic staff; under the guidance of the Senior Dental Nurse.

The role involves the preparation and maintenance of the clinical areas including stocks of materials and equipment and collecting and inputting data into the patient administration system.

  • Provide close support for the care of patients in a clinical environment
  • The preparation and maintenance of clinical areas ensuring that high standards of cross infection and cleanliness are maintained
  • To ensure department stock levels and equipment are maintained
  • To escort patients to and from waiting areas
  • To books appointments and update clinical activity data the post holders will be required to work as necessary within any area of the Dental Hospital and other Dental Units within the Trust

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To provide chair-side assistance (including patients being treated under General Anaesthetic) to all grades of dental staff and students working within the dental hospital.
  • To prepare all instruments, equipment and materials required for treatment.
  • To provide care and support for patients undergoing a variety of treatments.
  • To provide pre and post operative instructions and advice, so maintaining a high standard of patient care at all times.
  • To ensure patient confidentiality is always upheld.
  • To provide administrative assistance with regard to liaising with patients and other external agencies.
  • To provide clinical supervision and practical training to student dental nurses and other less experienced staff on a daily basis.
  • To ensure that cross infection control, the cleanliness of the department, stock levels and equipment are well maintained.
