For the purpose of Regional Recruitment, this job summary contains a general overview of the duties undertaken by a Band 5 Physiotherapist.
Posts offered may involve rotations within the HSC to which you are appointed. If appropriate, this rotation will cover a range of settings and physiotherapy services in which you will gain experience.
Assess and treat referred patients within professional standards.
Liaise with clients, carers and other members of multi-disciplinary teams for the benefit of the patient ensuring effective communication and reporting occur at all times.
Promote high standards of clinical treatment and physiotherapy care, to ensure a quality service.
Participate in evaluation of practice through audit and research activities when required.
Participate in emergency on-call, Bank Holiday, evening and weekend rotas as an autonomous worker and work flexibly over seven days inclusive of Saturday and Sunday
Participate in staff development and performance review processes.
The post-holder may be required to work a seven-day rota, which does not preclude Saturday and Sunday
Provide quality physiotherapy service within programmes of care to meet each individual patient’s specific needs across the HSC supporting the clinical teams.
Perform physiotherapeutic assessments of patients with diverse presentations and a range of physical, psychological and social conditions and determine accurate clinical diagnosis of patients. Undertake assessment, diagnosis and formulation of the physiotherapy aspect of treatment plans.
Hold responsibility for own caseload and work with regular supervision. Supervision takes the form of regular review of work and record keeping, formal training and clinical reasoning sessions, peer review, case conferences.
Undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner and liaise with the senior physiotherapy staff and multi-disciplinary teams. Undertake supervision of less experienced staff.
Partake in evidence-based audit and research projects to further the team’s clinical practice within each rotation.
Ensure the HSC’s policy on equality of opportunity is promoted through his/her own actions and those of any staff for whom he/she has responsibility.
Co-operate fully with the implementation of the HSC's Health and Safety arrangements, reporting any accidents/incidents/equipment defects to his/her manager, and maintaining a clean, uncluttered and safe environment for patients/clients, members of the public and staff.

Hold a current full driving licence which is valid for use in the UK and have access to a car on appointment. This criterion will be waived in the case of applicants whose disability prohibits driving but who have access to a form of transport approved by the HSC which will permit them to carry out the duties of the post.**
NB: the BHSCT will waive this criterion in the case of a suitable applicant who is able to organise suitable alternative arrangements to meet the requirements of the post in full. It will be expected that a full licence and access to a car is obtained within a 6 month period.

Have an excellent understanding of Physiotherapy Principles and Techniques of Treatment to include the core areas of Respiratory, Neuro-rehabilitation, Musculoskeletal / orthopaedics.
Knowledge of health and safety issues related to physiotherapy treatment
Effective planning and organisational skills with an ability to prioritise own workload
Ability to work as part of a team
Ability to identify solutions to problems and implement them effectively using clinical reasoning skills and initiative.
