Applications are invited for the post of Reducing Restrictive Practice Nurse – West London Forensic services.

West London Forensic service in-patient wards provide a place of safe and therapeutic environment for mental health service users that have been detained under of the Mental Health Act. The core aim of the service is to provide a safe environment where service users will receive mental health care, that uses the principles of Trauma informed Care and applying the least restrictive principles possible in a safe and therapeutic environment. The purpose of the post is to improve all aspects of restrictive practices used, while maintaining service user safety including governance of relevant processes and measures.

This job is intended as an outline indicator of general areas of activity and will be amended in the light of the changing needs of the organisation.  It will be reviewed in conjunction with the post holder on a regular basis. The post holder may be required to work at other locations within the Trust as determined by the duties of the post. The post holder may be required to undertake any other duties at the request of the line manager which are appropriate with the role, including project work, internal job rotation and absence cover.

The post holder will work with the Restrictive Practice Lead in order to maintain and report on key performance/governance data on key areas of restrictive practice.

Main duties of the job

  • Work as RRP Clinical Nurse within the inpatient and the SCFT team
  • Formulate, implement and evaluate interventions which support the clinical pathway for service users, specifically those who have been subject to STS / LTS, Restraint and/or Rapid Tranquilizatio
  • Provide direct teaching to staff or service users
  • Provide direct supervision and support to the reducing restrictive practice team
  • Work with PMVA staff to ensure Trust-wide training and education programme meets Trust and National standards and remains contemporary reflecting best practice in reducing restrictive practice and service user safety
  • Enhance the service user experience by monitoring and developing service user feedback and engagement at ward level and across Services
  • Support in the development and evaluation of policies \ protocols for advancing nursing practice.
  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge and skills within a defined area of expertise
  • Liaise and develop partnerships with other services/agencies as required
  • Evaluate nursing practice through audit of service and practice standards, developing and managing strategies that address any areas of improvement
  • Ensure the development and delivery of relevant training programmes, including the development of co-produced programmes, for both staff and service users, reflect service need and development
  • Provide verbal or written reports as requested
  • Identify areas for service development in the area of responsibility
