Job overview

Are you looking for a role where no two shifts are the same, where you can make a real difference, and where learning opportunities are part of everyday work? If so, we’d love you to join our Emergency Department Reception Team.

Our Emergency Department is a fast‑paced, 24‑hour service welcoming patients who arrive via GP referral, ambulance, or self‑referral. It’s an environment that’s varied, rewarding, and requires our reception service to operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year—including bank holidays. If you’re someone who thrives in a busy setting and enjoys supporting essential service hours, this could be the perfect role for you.

We currently have a part‑time Receptionist vacancy and can offer a supportive, friendly environment within a motivated team of receptionists, nurses, and clinicians. You will play an important role in helping us provide a smooth, compassionate experience for every patient who comes through our doors.

Right to Work Requirements To be eligible for this role, you must already have the right to work in the UK. Under current UK immigration rules, this role is not eligible for sponsorship, and we are unable to support visa applications. Unfortunately, we cannot consider applications that do not meet this requirement.

If you’re ready for a role full of challenge, variety, and purpose, we’d be delighted to hear from you.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide an efficient and comprehensive administration and reception service, supporting the Emergency Departments clinical teams.
  • To provide front of house services to patients and relatives in a professional and sensitive manner ensuring confidentiality at all times
  • To deal with all Emergency Department telephone and email queries
  • Book in and direct all patients who attend the Emergency Department, carrying out a basic triage of patients, taking into account the severity of the complaint, and ensure clinical staff are aware of their arrival as necessary.
  • Provide empathy when dealing with highly sensitive areas, such as relations of very poorly or deceased patients, or with sensitive health conditions.
  • To undertake any clerical duties as deemed necessary and reasonable, working autonomously and without direct supervision to prioritise and complete the workload, using established practices and procedures, seeking support if appropriate.
