Are you looking to start a career in the NHS? The Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital have exciting opportunities to join our Emergency Department (ED) as a Receptionist. It is an exciting time to join our ED as the team comes together to continue to develop the department towards recognition as a Major Trauma Centre.

Already the busiest ED in the East of England, NNUH are ambitious to expand and improve the services we offer. The Reception role in the Emergency Department is a key position.

The Reception Team in ED offer part time posts from 15 to 22.5 to 30 hours a week, working within the Emergency Department and Children’s Emergency Department.

The ED reception is covered 24 hours, 7 days a week with a variety of shifts 06:00-14:00, 08:00-16:00, 11:30-19:30, 14:00-22:00, 16:00-00:00, 17:00-01:00, 22:00-06:00

You will also be required, to provide reception cover at Cromer Minor Injuries Unit.

Cromer Minor Injuries Unit is open 8am -8pm with shifts worked 8am-2pm or 2pm-8pm (6 hours)

Main duties of the job

With 120,000 patients coming through ED annually the Receptionist position is the first point of contact for patients, often at a difficult and distressing time for them.

This is a busy and fast paced environment and requiring friendly, warm, and understanding individuals who can maintain a positive and highly patient centred, caring approach at all times.

As the front line in the Emergency Department, you will be working with a close-knit professional reception team. You will need to be a strong communicator and possess excellent admin and computer skills.

Whilst experience working elsewhere in the NHS is preferable you will be provided with full and extensive training on the systems and processes and benefit from the support of an experienced and established leadership.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Description of post:

  • Reception duties, booking in patients in a high demand area, scanning notes onto the IT system
  • To make patients feel welcome and at ease, providing assistance with patient comfort as required.
  • To provide a fast, efficient and accurate clerical support service to medical and nursing staff
  • Maintain an efficient filing system for ED cards
  • Work alongside the existing administration team
  • General admin duties within the department
  • To attend mandatory, in-service and staff development training

Requirements:

  • Excellent communication/customer care skills in your capacity as a front-line member of staff.
  • Previous reception experience desirable
  • Keyboard skills essential, PAS training desirable.
  • Team working skills are essential, but also the ability to work using own initiative in a continually changing environment.

Cromer Minor Injuries Unit runs differently to the Emergency Department, overview of general responsibilities include:

  • To be responsible for receiving patients attending the MIU, entering patient details on computer, updating records and registering new patients using hospital systems
  • Maintain filing systems of patient records
  • Carrying out emergency procedures using a paging system in the event of a cardiac arrest, fire and request for Emergency Response Team
  • Unlocking/locking main doors to hospital at 8am/8pm
  • Arrange clinic appointments
  • All other responsibilities as required
