An exciting opportunity has arisen at Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust to work withing the Rapid Diagnostic Team (RDC). The Rapid Diagnostics Clinic manages outpatients who are referred with non-specific symptoms to exclude or make a cancer diagnosis. The post holder will be an experienced nurse who can work within their professional boundaries to assess, make clinical decisions, communicate results to patients and manage a case load of patients with support. They will work collaboratively within the Rapid Diagnostics Team, Primary Care, Cancer Services and other services within the hospital.
This role will develop the post holder towards providing expert level cancer diagnostics and assessments, with the potential to support development into an ANP role.
The post holder will be a key member of the RDCC multidisciplinary team. They will be the main point of liaison between patients, local GPs, Same Day Emergency Care and other medical specialty teams including Gastroenterology, Haematology, Senior Health, and Surgical Teams.
The post holder will undertake vetting of referrals, assessment and examination with appropriate support of patients in clinic. You will be expected to request tests and investigations for patients as appropriate. Acting as keyworker, the CNS will co-ordinate the patient’s cancer pathway between hospital departments such as medicine and radiology with close support and input from the, RDCC ANP, RDCC GPwER and Lead Consultant. Together, with the Patient Navigator, they will act as the point of contact between the patient and the various specialty teams involved in the diagnostic process.
The post holder will be responsible for communicating results of investigations to patients and advising of further diagnostic procedures as required. The post holder will also work closely with the Patient Navigator and ANP to meet NHS England minimum data set requirements and the cancer alliance KPI’s, as well as actively contributing to the on-going development of the pathway and the collection of data related to the project. In due course the post holder will be encouraged to help collate and present the data at local and national meetings.
