Applications are invited from suitable candidates who wish to join the Radiology Department in the position of Porter. We work around a 7 day week and extended working day (8am – 6am). We have several posts available.

The department team consists of a mix of full time and part time porters. Vacancies in this area are rare and this is an excellent opportunity for you to join our friendly team of porters and radiographic staff.

Applicants must have good communication skills, should be neatly presented and should be willing to work as part of a team. The role is very physical and involves a lot of manual and patient handling/moving tasks.

Previous experience of working with the public and in a hospital setting is preferable.

Main duties of the job

  • 1.To assist in the moving and transfer of patients as required in the x-ray, CT, MRI and Ultrasound examination rooms (to include pat-sliding and log rolling following appropriate training)

2.To carry out miscellaneous errands between departments and wards, including a messenger service if required

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • 1.    To work effectively in a team with other porters and radiology staff to ensure the safe movement of patients and their notes to and from the Radiology department 2.    Coordination and communication with the Radiographers, RDA’s and Radiology Nurses to ensure the safe arrival and return of in-patients to the imaging department. This will include being able to relay important information to and from the Radiology department to nursing 3.    To assist in the moving and transfer of patients as required in the Radiology examination rooms (to include pat-sliding and log rolling following appropriate training) 4.    To carry out miscellaneous errands between departments and wards, including a messenger service if required 5.    To maintain x-ray wheelchairs and trolleys (including MRI compatible specialist transfer equipment). Ensuring fitness for use including reporting faults and arranging temporary replacement equipment whilst repairs are underway. 6.    To be responsible for ensuring a high standard of cleanliness of transport equipment in line with infection prevention and control policy and procedure 7.    To move furniture and equipment as required 8.    To ensure that all reasonable care and precautions are taken to prevent damage and accidents to staff and equipment 9.    Use of initiative to enable an efficient service to include an awareness of the implications of delays in patients transfer to the Radiology department 10. To report any equipment faults to a senior member of Radiographic staff 11. To be polite and respectful to patients and ensure that patient’s dignity is respected at all times 12. To reassure patients and their relatives whilst transporting them to the department and ensuring their basic care needs are attended to. 13. To maintain a high standard of appearance and hygiene
