An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and enthusiastic Band 3 Radiology Health Care Assistant to join the Radiology Department at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust. The successful candidate should possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to demonstrate a problem-solving approach to their work and be flexible to work across the pathways of care within clinical settings within the Radiology Directorate.

East Lancashire NHS Trust offers Radiological services across 7 sites. (2 acute and 5 community sites) We deliver high standards of care to all our patients and are looking for a dynamic and motivated person to work alongside and support our friendly, hardworking team. The service is committed to training and developing staff within their role and any required training will be provided.

Main duties of the job

To undertake a wide range of non-radiographic duties across all ELHT sites to support the Diagnostic Imaging Service.

Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide the highest standards of patient care.

Assist in all aspects of patient care which will include moving patients, escorting patients, and relatives, and assisting Radiologists/Health Care Professionals to position non ambulant patients.

Main Duties

  • Chaperone and Assist patients to dress/undress where appropriate.
  • Support and provide reassurance to patients and carers/family
  • Prepare and set up for imaging examinations. This includes the preparation of trays, trolleys and examination rooms.
  • Provide assistance to Clinicians and other Registered Health Care Professionals during clinical procedures.
  • Undertake agreed clinical tasks, under the direct supervision of a Clinician or other Registered Health Care Professionals
  • Assist with IV Cannulations to assist the workflow of the Department in line with Trust policy after completion of Trust venepuncture training programme.
  • Provide scrub assistance to clinicians and other registered health care professionals during sterile procedures
  • Monitor patient post procedure and report to qualified staff any changes in the patient’s condition.
  • Understand and comply with the cross-infection policy when dealing with patients
  • Ensure the tidiness and cleanliness of all clinical rooms ensuring equipment is cleaned as directed.
  • Ensure stock is put away in a timely manner and adequate stock levels are maintained.
  • Understand and comply with Nuclear Medicine legislation with regards to isotope receipt,disposal and environmental monitoring.
  • Comply with MHRA Magnetic resonance imaging equipment in clinical use:Safety guidelines / Departmental MRI safety Local rules.
  • Reception duties including registration and processing of patient details onto the computer as required. This involves the operation of Radiology and associated hospital computer systems.
  • Work flexibly between 8am and 8pm Monday to Sunday, with time off in the week to compensate for weekend working
