Job overview

Dorset Mental Health Support Teams in Schools (MHSTs) are excited to recruit Qualified or Trainee Senior Wellbeing Practitioners/Supervisors (Band 6) to join our friendly and forward-thinking teams across Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch and Weymouth, Portland and West.

This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a service that sits right at the heart of schools, making a real difference to the mental health and wellbeing of children, young people, and their families. Our MHSTs provide support to those experiencing mild to moderate mental health needs, working closely within education settings to promote early intervention and positive outcomes.

If you are applying for a training post, you will undertake a part-time programme with the University of Exeter starting in September 2026, over two years.

You will already hold a Low Intensity CBT qualification (with either CYP or adult experience).

This role offers the opportunity to further develop both your clinical and leadership skills. You will work with a wide range of presentations, while providing high-quality supervision and support to trainee and qualified Education Mental Health Practitioners, helping them to grow in confidence, knowledge, and skill.

Employment in this post requires an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which the Trust will cover the cost of.  Applicants who subscribe to the DBS update service are able to present a valid DBS certificate instead of requiring a new check.

Main duties of the job

In this role, you’ll play a key part in shaping and overseeing the clinical work delivered by our Education Mental Health Practitioners (EMHPs), supporting both those in training and those already qualified. You’ll help ensure that Low Intensity CBT interventions are delivered to a high standard, making a real difference to the mental wellbeing of children and young people.

You will provide clinical supervision, guidance, and leadership to colleagues, helping to build confidence, capability, and consistency across the team. Alongside this, you’ll contribute to the development of clinical and operational processes, supporting the continued growth and effectiveness of the service.

Our teams also work closely with education settings to promote a whole-school approach to emotional wellbeing. This includes offering consultation, delivering training, and facilitating both small and large group work to support positive mental health for all pupils.

You will be joining a well-established, creative and supportive team, where curiosity, collaboration, and professional development are actively encouraged. We are committed to supporting you throughout your training and beyond, enabling you to practice safely, ethically, and with confidence.

Please note visa sponsorship for this role is unfortunately not available. Ensure you hold valid right to work in the UK and will not require sponsorship if successful.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

For the main duties and responsibilities for this role please read the attached job description and person specification.  When completing your application please ensure your supporting statement reflects the criteria set out in these documents by showing how your experience and skills apply to this post.

Please note that this post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which will be covered by the Trust. Applicants registered with the DBS Update Service may present a current DBS certificate instead.

We offer an employability service to support individuals with application writing, interview skills and other employment support.
